Seminar: “Continuous education in the field of retraining and professional development of pedagogical staff (from the experience of overseas countries)”
These days the integration processes that aimed at retraining and professional development of pedagogical staff in the higher education system are the key element of the world community development. From this perspective, the Bologna process considers the continuous education system as the education focused on the needs of the person and the new need of the current period. At the meantime, with the support of programmes aimed at reforming the higher education in Uzbekistan the special attention is paid to the development of life-long learning, continuous education and the need for independent learning. The Decree of the First President of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On measures for further development of the system of retraining and advanced training of managerial and pedagogical staff of higher educational institutions" plays a crucial role in strengthening the professional level and experience of university professors and teachers, introducing the developed system of retraining in line with modern requirements. This seminar has been organised with the purpose of familiarising the representatives of HEIs and MHSSE in the country with the foreign best practices on the system of retraining and advanced training. It focused on the analysis of issues such as best practices and methods used in the system of European HEIs, development of the National Qualification Framework considering staff members working in the system of Higher Education, national approach to strengthen teaching and learning and so on. Moreover, the work on the development of the pedagogical staff training in the system of HEIs in Uzbekistan was also discussed. During the two-day seminar all participants had an opportunity to clarify the issues interesting for them and discuss new projects in the frame of the Erasmus+ programme.
The first day of the seminar was held in the Head Scientific and Methodical Centre (HSMC) on 12 January 2017. The seminar was attended by above 70 participants representing Ministry of Higher and Secondary Specialised Education, 51 HEIs, HSMC and the National Team of Higher Education Reform Experts. Mr. Madjit Karimov, Deputy Minister of HSSE opened the seminar with a welcome speech and emphasised that best foreign practices which are proper to the local policy should be implemented in Uzbekistan.
The second day of the seminar continued in the premises of Tashkent State Pedagogical Institute on 13 January 2017. Over 60 participants benefited the live seminar, full of interactive presentations and discussions.
During the two-day event Dr. Terry Maguire, Director of National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning (T&L) in Higher Education (Ireland) delivered presentations on the organisation of continuous professional development (CPD) and specific subjects for upgrading skills of pedagogical staff sharing with EU and Irish experiences.
